Flow metering system for LPG – loading/unloading

Location: Pancevo, Serbia

End-user: NIS a.d. Novi Sad, Serbia

Fluids: LPG, Propane, Butane, Isobutane

Start-up date: 2010

Client request referred to a state-of-the-art LPG loading facility, with intention to replace metering systems based on turbine meters and include gaseous component into calculation.

Measurement requirements
Loading and unloading by weight scale is impossible to ensure an accurate batch. By direct NET flow measurement process is more accurate and less time consuming. The request was to design metering systems with class 0,3 for NET loading.

In addition to this, main request was the usage of Coriolis mass flow meters to directly measure mass flow.

Since the LPG loading process means transfer between two vessels under pressure, it is mandatory to measure liquid phase filling the vessel and vapor phase coming out of the vessel to the tank.

Custom-made solution – Revamping the old facility

Scope of supply:

  • 6 metering systems for truck loading
  • 3 metering systems for rail loading
  • 2 metering systems for truck and rail unloading

Technical Details:

  • Control valves ensure metrological consistency by controlling differential pressure between the liquid phase and LPG vapor pressure.
  • Flow Meters Used:
    • OPTIMASS 7300 T40 CT and T50 CT for liquid
    • OPTIMASS 8300k S25 for return vapor phase
  • OPTIMASS 7300 CT is globally approved for CT applications, including in Serbia, and is effective for measuring light hydrocarbons.
  • OPTIMASS 8300k features a twin U shape tube, ideal for low density and low flow vapors.

Advantages:

  • Highly accurate net batching
  • Measurement of both LPG liquid phase and return vapor phase
  • Compact system on a single skid
  • Remote operation, certified according to OIML R-117-1 and MID directive

This setup ensures precise and efficient handling of LPG, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency.
